Our main courses were two – a tofu and bock choi dish and a bean and quinoa dish! While we usually eat meat based dishes, both of these were amazing and sealed the deal on Quinta do Arneiro as our rehearsal dinner spot. I also got to try some of Quinta do Arneiro’s spicy red peppers. Definitely ask about them!

A couple of weeks ago, Tom and I took a break from all the Port Wine Day goings-on in Porto and the Douro and headed south. We had been invited to join the vindimas—wine grape harvest—at Quinta do Gradil, in Cadaval, not far from Lisbon. There are countless opportunities to experience harvest season in Portugal, but this one seemed especially fitting.

Quinta do Gradil is a property with a rich history dating back to the 15th century. It is located in Cadaval, in Porto Moniz, and is a reference point for wine production in the Lisbon region.

Some of our guests still rank QDO’s beet risotto as one of their top dishes! I wrote all about it here, so rather than going into all of the specific details again are some highlights:

5km from Gradil, where there is a great restaurant and a grocery store for small purchases. If you want a bigger supermarket, there are all the big ones in Malveira, 8 minutes away, as well as many restaurants. Mafra is just 15 minutes away too. The beautiful Ericeira and its beaches are 20 minutes away if you want to enjoy the coast. If you want to go for a walk to Lisbon or Sintra, they are only 30 minutes away so you can wander around to your heart's content :)...

, to name just a few There was plenty of wine flowing as well, but for us, the emphasis was not on formal tastings. Rather, it was a fun day that celebrated the camaraderie, local flavors, and relaxed lifestyle of the Lisbon wine region’s countryside.

The Tannat spent 12 months in new French oak, creating medium to strong tannins. It was suggested to try with gambas caril (shrimp curry), and I can see that would be an interesting match.

Dinner starts with a Welcome Cocktail at 7:30pm, followed by dinner, served at 8pm in events room with panoramic views overlooking Porto and the Douro river.
